President Mark Sorenson welcomed everyone to the meeting, once our "Zoom" meeting organizer Mike Christie had settled everyone down.

Rotary Club - "What we can do"
The City of Medicine Hat website has a relatively complete list of local issues....check this out as well.
District 5360 has provided a single website to provide up to date information on other club meetings, on activities around the District and some links to Covid-19 sources as well.
The club is encouraging support for a Rotary International project of the club. The Club Rotario Bahía de Jaltemba La Peñita operates 10 soup kitchens and because of the Covid crisis, a lack of funding and many more individuals needing support the Guyobidos Mexico club needs funding. This is the club that Rotarian Roger Roy supports while he is in Mexico. Treasurer Gail Halderman has sent out a completely voluntary donation request based on five meals in June, so if you'd like to, please help out. Funds gathered ($2020.00 to date) will be transferred directly to that club.

Treasurer Gail Halderman explained the logistics and requirements of the planned "drive-thru" Ribfest, scheduled for August 7 - 9, 2020 running each day from 11am - 7pm. There are a number of logistics to organize, including power, propane and water. The "ribbers" are very efficient and can process about a dozen cars a minute, so the service should be fast. Questions were asked about insurance, alcohol and traffic control which Gail explained.
The intention is that vehicles will line up using the Murray Chev-Olds parking lot, and will view the menu's and different "ribbers" offerings as they wait in line. Then they will line up in the line they wish to purchase from, the ordering and payment will all be done on an iPad system and Rotary will be there to sell water, pop and perhaps pass out information about the club.
There will be 4 ribbers and one "tatter" truck, so lots of choice in the lines.
Gail asked Rotarians to consider volunteering, there will be approximately 3 shifts each day of about 4 hours. We intend to have the Rotary Tent there, and hopefully can provide a "novel" event at this unusual time. If you are available that weekend please contact Gail, he's helping organize our side of the event.
Dave Panabaker reminded Rotarians that Theresa Eisenbarth is still working on the Interact Garage Sale. If you have things to donate, please contact Theresa.
Dave also reminded everyone that Rotarian Theresa has an exhibit ongoing at the Esplanade Art Gallery. A Rotary viewing has been arranged for Friday July 17, the invitation is out and space is limited so if you are interested, please contact Dawn Barr. Everyone is invited to join us after, at 5 pm for a social at The Mezz, downtown on 2nd St SE (Old Beveridge Building).
Stephanie Rodrigo, Club Secretary of the RC of Capital City, Sri Lanka had invited our club to attend (via Zoom) the installation and changeover ceremony of their club on Monday July 6. A number of Rotarians who accommodated the Rotary Friendship Exchange in 2018 attended, including PP Margie, Kitt and Dieter Brand, and PDG Rick Istead. Our joint club "SMILE denture project, to which our club donated $10,000 was mentioned, with thanks and appreciation. They are a small, but mighty, club and it was great to take part in their meeting.
If you are interested in receiving an electronic version of "The Rotarian" please log onto MyRotary and follow this link. There is a form to fill out, so you can save postage and trees. You will need the information off the mailing label of your current copy of the Rotarian. The link is https://my.rotary.org/en/node/18361 .
Dieter Brand mentioned to all that paying your dues and other Rotary contributions is quite easy using the Clubrunner site. Simply "log on", go into the "Admin" area and select "My Clubrunner"....under that tab there is a selection that is titled "My Account Balance"...simply enter the information there, include a note as to what it is for and send in on to Treasurer Gail. Once we are "back together again", a quick demo of this can be shown at a club meeting. If anyone has difficulty, give Dieter or Dave P a call.
Rotarians have been invited to take part in a special Innovation Forum, being put on with CMHC and MH Community Housing Society. The forum will take place on Friday July 17, from 9 am to noon. The project is called Systems Transformation Lab. The intent of the project is to introduce new processes, tools and technologies to resolve complex social issues and advance the well being of all Medicine Hat residents. If you are interested, the registration is done at this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScfnMfvgU_nhGgfyEVn1-9RuJ4elJdPKC7D-aR0qhmRYf7WDw/viewform
Four new Club members, Peter Mueller, Shalla Shaharyar, Igor Grujic and Elaine Behiel, are currently independently exploring needs in Medicine Hat community. They will pool their findings in August and decide, as a group, to which Association or group they will donate $1,000 on behalf of our Club. This initiative, focusing on local needs and community service, is how Past President Margie decided, with Board approval, to ‘spend’ her Presidential budget allocation. A presentation to the recipient organisation / group will be made by the four members, at a regular noon Monday meeting, possibly in September.
Sandy Mackay reminded all Rotarians that October is World Polio Day, and although we held a good event last year, we need to be planning for something different this year. Please put on your thinking caps and give some feedback to the Board or Sandy, on what would be effective.
Past President Margie has done a "Presidential Summary" of the past year, look for it under "Club Documents" on our website.
If you have photos or a story to include in the Weekly News, please submit it to Dave P and we'll try to publish it.
